My Story

My earliest memory of music was at age 3 belting out ‘away in a manger’at the top of my lungs. I know I didn’t do anything on my own some Sunday school teacher put me up to it, or, something else did it to me.

My first experience with being changed through music, happened at age 5. My parents took me to listen to and watch professionals play and sing gospel music.  Why they didn’t just go on a date and figure out a babysitter is something I’ve always wondered about.  I’ve never been quite the same since that night. What I’d heard on Dad’s and Grandpa’s record players became real for me, and I was hooked.

60ish years later I’m still hooked by how good music speaks, heals, and transforms in ways more helpful than almost anything else I’m aware of.  I’m not in this to convince anyone about anything, just to say to me it’s real and I’m grateful for how the Spirit works.

If I could only have one sentence to wonder out loud about what’s going on with me and music it’s probably this, “God all I ever really wanted, is to sing a song for You.”  Yes I know this is supposed to be a bio. But I’ve been journeying with a desire and love for good music that I can’t take credit for since I was just a little boy, and I wonder if this thing with mhq isn’t just an answer to a prayer.  I really don’t know but I did catch myself the other day singing alongside the guys, and that quiet voice within was saying “thank you, for giving me this desire of my heart.’

I may not know how to write a bio but I know I’m still hooked.  I may be an amateur, lead, tenor, wannabe singer, but I carry within me a deep desire, and love, for the healing, joyful, transforming power of good music.
